The Erigineea Saga's Journal So, along with this past week's commentary, I'm also going to announce that I'm taking Paladins' Haven on a brief hiatus. Specifically, due to NaNoWriMo, there will be no PH updates in November. There will be (probably) people with shitty superpowers getting up to ridiculous shenanigans in So now you know. On to the commentary! Monday 25 October 2010 Strip #361: Sullen Return * That poor guard needs a better hairdresser. Badly. * Obviously they don't really expect trouble. That's a pretty tiny guard turnout. * Please pretend the architecture is somewhat impressive, at least. Wednesday 27 October 2010 Strip #362: The Unwilling Babysitter And The Drunk Guard Captain * The title of this strip makes me giggle. It reminds me of the kind of title structure you'd expect from a children's book. Gone horribly, horribly wrong. * In reality, Colone just doesn't like being told what to do, period. * I think we need to work on your definition of "stealing", kid. Friday 29 October 2010 Strip #363: Needs More Salt * Maybe Deerfoot should've thought his plan through a little more... * And maybe Colone would benefit from an anger management course or something. * I do like how matter-of-factly he can say that, though. * Aaand I really hope Rydric doesn't require Colone's assistance for anything again anytime soon. The good captain is good at burning his bridges today. Wednesday 20 October 2010 Strip #359: A High Price To Pay * I am not quite sure what the price Sir Whatever-His-Name-Is paid was supposed to be. Strangleweed was going to kill him anyway. * A change of wardrobe is in order! * That pitcher? Lamp oil. Friday 22 October 2020 Strip #360: Paladin For A Night * That's supposed to be fabric, on the fire. * Any criminal worth his salt knows walking calmly away from the crime scene draws less attention. * He does make a rather believable Paladin, doesn't he? What is this? Commentary in a timely manner? Preposterous! Monday 18 October 2010 Strip #358: Nothing Personal * I am way too amused by Strangleweed in this comic. I'm sure it not being personal is a tremendous comfort to Sir Whatever-His-Name-Is. * Also I love Strangleweed here. Punch Clock Villain? Check. (At least he makes himself out to be one.) Monday 11 October 2010 Strip #355: The Calm Before The Storm * I know, I fail at backgrounds. Apparently Teigha's temple has alcoves set into the walls for sleeping. And air vent type things behind the wall drapes. * It looks like Jaqueleen and her mentor are not alone. DUN-dun! Wednesday 13 October 2010 Strip #356: Lots Of Smoke But No Mirrors * Do we recognize this man from somewhere? (Hint: yes) * What could that be, that he's got? Considering why he's here... * ... that really doesn't look like good news for the Candidate and Paladin, now does it? Friday 15 October 2010 Strip #357: A Sinister Shadow * Aww, Jaqueleen, playing the heroine, are we? How touching. * Apparently two can play that Ssso... As I mentioned back in later September, Zee, my long-time companion, committed suicide in the (for me, being a lazy bum who sleeps in until 9-10 am) early morning hours of September 28th. He was a very quirky, but ultimately reasonably reliable computer, and I'm sure he will be missed. His replacement (wearing the same case and using his DVD burner and one of his hard drives) has been named Rosanna. Being without a computer made commentary rather hard to do, but it's all better now, provided my memory serves going forward. This is also why the comics for Monday and Wednesday last week were late. The comics were done, but I'd not gotten them scanned at my parents', and thus I had to wait until I could get Photoshop and scanner installed on Rosanna, Zee's snappy replacement. Seriously. So fast. Zoom-zoom! So. Let's move on. This post for Week 40, another for Week 41, and one for today, coming up! Monday 4 October 2010 Strip #352: One Who Knows Avelyon * Deerfoot only has so much patience. He went out of his way to bring this message, the least they could do is believe him, right? * And not mock him. Mocking him was rude, Zvee. But * Shadowrose is... concerned. For good reason. Wednesday 6 October 2010 Strip #353: Position Of Impotence * The title was punny and therefore amuses me. Also I couldn't think of another word to bring across the meaning I wanted. * Shadowrose has a fit of doubt. Can you blame him? He was just hanged this morning, after all. * The above reminds me, we've been on this day since May 11th 2005. Going to get to a new day soon, I promise. And I'll try not to make 5-year days a habit in the future. Friday 8 October 2010 Strip #354: Merely A Messenger * Deerfoot is, as we know by now (or should if we've been paying attention), a slippery, sneaky little bastard. Of course he knows nothing. 0:-) * Zvee apparently respects Sah's will enough to at least walk Deerfoot out. That or he's being a good host? It's still Friday here, darnit! :D Friday 1 October 2010 Strip #351: The Things He Could Do * Slip of the tongue there, Deerfoot? * I don't think I've ever seen Shadowrose look quite that boggled. * And versus that query, what can Deerfoot say? If he says yes, he's being petty. If he says no and admits the truth, he's a whore who fell for one of his clients. Neither is pretty. * Zvee certainly finds that fork more entertaining than telling Shadowrose "I told you so". Friday 24 September 2010 Strip #348: I Hear You But I Don't Believe A Word You Say * Once again we're on the subject of Deerfoot's ears * But what's this? Something that actually resembles an explanation? * I'm... not sure that's a profession you should be taking quite so much pride in, Deerfoot. All things considered. Monday 27 September 2010 Strip #349: Assassin's Mouthpiece * So, yeah. If it was not already clear, Zvee can read Shadowrose's mind. * I'm sure Krizz would be delighted to see Shadowrose sitting up like that. And by "delighted" I mean "annoyed" * Shadowrose, if that wasn't clear already, is a member of the Thieves' Guild. Wednesday 29 September 2010 Strip #350: Honesty Among Thieves * So, Deerfoot has been lying to pretty much everyone. * That's a piddly thing to get tossed out of your village for, tho. Can we have a little bit of sympathy? * That's a very good question, there. Aroown is related to Lord Tragash, yet sends a whore to deliver his messages? On a much less pleasant note, my computer kicked the bucket Tuesday morning, and I discovered last night that I hadn't managed to get the strips from Friday on uploaded to WordPress for updating yet. I'm currently staying with my parents, as I've some work to do which I need a computer for, and am using my father's computer as he's out of town. The bad news is that he for some unfathomable reason has disconnected his scanner. I have the originals of the missing pages here, but I need to at least find out why the scanner is unplugged before I try to plug it in and use it. See above about him being out of town. So comics are probably delayed until further notice; I'll be uploading the backlog when I get this sorted. Hopefully I'll get word tonight or tomorrow and the delay will be minimal, but I just don't know. Apparently I'm making a habit of doing commentary halfway through the week like this. I'll try to get better about it. Monday 20 September 2010 Strip #346: Rat And Deer * Shadowrose, for all that he's paranoid enough to have survived in the criminal world for most of his life, doesn't see the use in worrying about Rydric. * Zvee, for all that he usually trusts Shadowrose's judgement, doesn't see the use in dismissing that potential complication. * I am inordinately amused by Deerfoot's gesture there, flicking his hand like he's waving a fly away or something. * That guard seems almost as good at burning bridges as Colone's stablehand. Because he better not believe Zvee will have any love for him after being addressed in that manner. Wednesday 22 September 2010 Strip #347: Mission Accomplished, Now Get Out * If there's one thing Deerfoot has, it's definitely balls. * Panel 2 is another of those panels I am inordinately amused by. (That rectangle, btw, is the door to the room.) * And... yet another person assuming Deerfoot is a thief! Will this mystery conclusion ever be explained? (Answer: Yes, it will. Patience.) Funstats: At the end of this month (after next Wednesday), this storyline will be 110 strips long. The following week's Friday (October 8) is when I round off the seventh item on my outline, leaving 15 more points to go. I'm not sure the storyline will end at 200 strips or more, but I'd be surprised if it ends before the 150 page mark. Friday 17 September 2010 Strip #345: Regrets Of An Assassin * One of these days I should sit down and just draw a couple of pages of wozelle sketches. I don't like Zvee in the first panel at all. * Zvee is starting to annoy Shadowrose. * Oh, Zvee, if only you knew how right you are about that... Monday 13 September 2010 Strip #343: Cultural Influence * Now, Shadowrose's assessment about how amused humans are by same-sex relationships is probably off. * That's a low blow, Zvee! * For those of you who aren't old-time readers, Ceixton is the gentleman mentioned by Sah' here. Wednesday 15 September 2010 Strip #344: Cultural Pressure * Shadowrose has a very valid point. He's wrong, but he has a point. * That, Zvee, is what we call hypocrisy. And you're getting called on it. * Shadowrose knows just how to derail his Bonded. |
